Sir,
Enclosure No 3.
Hong Kong,
569
6th December 1902.
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt
of your letter of today's date informing that you have
been directed by His Excellency the Governor to inquire
from me if the statements set forth in your letter under
reply are correct.
In answer I beg to say that it is perfectly
correct that certain fees were paid to me for professional
services rendered by me in my capacity of a barrister-at- law practising in this Colony in connection with the
Petitions mentioned in your letter.
The professional services I rendered were per- formed through Messrs Johnson Stokes & Master and Messrs Ewens & Harston by whom I was instructed in connection with the Water Petition and the Public Health and Buildings
Petition respectively.
Sir John Keane Bart.
Private Secretary.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your obedient servant,
Hr Mai
